The Stockinette Stitch is one of the simplest and best known knitting patterns. However, it is already more complex than the “Garter Stitch<\/a>“, because it consists not only of knit stitches, but also of purl stitches. The knitting pattern is nevertheless very suitable for beginners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The knitting pattern results in a very smooth surface on the front. However, you will quickly notice that your knitted garment will curl at the edges. This is a characteristic of every piece knitted in the Stockinette Stitch. You can prevent this with edge stitches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Techniques:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Knit 1 stitch:<\/strong> Insert the right needle from left to right into the next stitch on the left needle. The working yarn is behind the project. Wrap the working yarn once from back to front around the right needle. Now pull the working yarn with the right needle through the stitch in which you have inserted the needle. You now have a new stitch on your right needle. Let the stitch on your left needle slip off the needle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purl 1 stitch:<\/strong> Insert the right needle from right to left into the next stitch on the left needle. The working yarn is in front of the project. Wrap the working yarn once from back to front around the right needle. Now push the working yarn with the right needle through the stitch in which you have inserted the needle.
