It’s time again for the free pattern of the month. And in May I have something very special for you: A free tutorial for DIY macramé feather earrings. They are super easy and quick to make and fit perfectly to every Boho outfit.
For the DIY macramé feather earrings you need:

- Cotton, or cotton leftovers in the desired color, e.g. we are knitters
- Ear hooks, like from old earrings you don’t like anymore.
- A pair of scissors
- A comb
Here we go:
First you cut a piece of cotton yarn about 20 cm long, depending on how long you want your feather earrings to become. Thread the yarn into the earhook and lay it double.

Now cut off 30 cotton threads of approx. 10 cm length.
Tip: If you have enough wool left you can cut the threads longer than 10 cm. Then you will have more cuttings, but it is easier to tie the knots.

Tie them around the long yarn as follows:
Take two short threads. Put the first cotton thread in a loop under the long cotton yarn.

Take the second thread and place its loop under the two ends of the first thread. Then guide the two ends of the second thread over the long yarn through the loop of the first thread.

Tighten both threads to a knot.

Always push the short threads as far up as possible so that there are no gaps. Repeat this until you have only a small piece of your long yarn left or all your threads are tied to the long yarn.

Unravel the single threads of your cotton with a comb from both sides.

Now cut the feather with your scissors according to your wishes. Bring them into shape with your comb again and again and check if you still have to trim them.

Finally, you can fix the feather with some hairspray.
Repeat this once again for the second earring and your DIY macramé feather earrings in boho look are ready.
Of course you can also use the macramé feathers for other purposes, such as pendants, wall decoration, etc. Get creative and show your selfmade macramé feathers on Instagram with #theknitstitch.
